Heavy Duty Drawer Slides from 150 lb to 770 lb
Heavy duty drawer slides are a different part from furniture slides. Where a 100 lb kitchen rail uses light-gauge steel, our heavy range runs cold-rolled steel or stainless steel with a thicker section, larger ball bearings and a reinforced inner rail, so the slide does not flex when the drawer is pulled out fully loaded. This collection starts at 150 lb and runs to a 770 lb twin-slide set.
The heavy duty range is what customers use for truck toolboxes, RV and camper storage, outdoor kitchen drawers, workshop benches, stair storage and server racks. Full extension is standard across most of the range — a 500 lb slide that only extends three quarters is not much use when the toolbox is deep.
Three choices matter more than anything else here: the load rating, the mounting surface (a 500 lb slide is only as strong as what it is screwed into) and whether you need locking to stop the drawer rolling open in a moving vehicle.

Heavy Duty Drawer Slides FAQ
What counts as a heavy duty drawer slide?
In practice, anything rated above roughly 150 lb. Below that you are in furniture hardware; above it the slide needs thicker steel, a larger bearing cage and a mounting bracket that spreads the load into the cabinet frame rather than a single screw.
Will a 500 lb slide really hold 500 lb?
The rating is the load the pair can carry when correctly mounted to a solid surface, evenly distributed and cycled at normal speed. Real-world capacity drops if the load sits at the very front of an extended drawer, if the slide is mounted to thin particle board, or if the drawer is slammed. Size up rather than to the limit.
Why do my RV drawers open while driving?
Standard ball bearing slides have no detent, so vibration and braking walk the drawer open. A locking slide such as the D7625 latches in the closed position and releases with a lever, which is the standard fix for RVs, campers and service vehicles.
Steel or stainless steel for outdoor use?
Cold-rolled steel with a zinc finish is fine indoors and in a dry garage. For outdoor kitchens, marine use, or anywhere the slide gets washed down, choose stainless steel — the zinc coating is the only thing protecting plain steel, and once it is scratched the rust starts.
How much clearance do heavy duty slides need?
Most side mount heavy duty slides need about 1/2" to 3/4" of clearance on each side of the drawer, though the exact figure differs by model. Measure your cabinet opening width, subtract the drawer box width, and check that what is left matches the slide thickness — this is the most common fitting mistake.
Can heavy duty slides be mounted at the bottom?
Yes, and it is often the better answer for very heavy drawers. Bottom mount puts the load into the cabinet floor instead of the side walls, which suits stair storage, under-stair lockers and safes. See our bottom mount slide rails for those builds.
Not sure which rating fits your build? Start from the heaviest thing the drawer will ever carry, then add a 25–30% safety margin — our team can confirm the right model from your cabinet opening width and drawer length.
