Bottom Mount and Undermount Slide Rails

Bottom mount slides carry the drawer from beneath, bolting to the cabinet floor rather than the side walls. That matters when the cabinet sides cannot take a fixing, such as stair storage, under-stair lockers and safes, or when you want a very heavy drawer supported along its base instead of hanging from two thin rails. This collection includes the 265 lb bottom mount slide (A2047) and the 80 lb undermount soft-close slide (MK316) for frameless kitchen cabinets.

Undermount is the close cousin of bottom mount. The hardware tucks up under the drawer box and disappears when the drawer is open, which is the standard look for modern frameless kitchens. Our undermount MK316 adds soft close so the drawer pulls itself shut. Bottom mount trades the hidden look for raw carrying capacity, which is why the heavy models live here rather than in side mount.

Both types need accurate measurement. Undermount needs clearance beneath the drawer box for the slide body, and bottom mount needs a flat, level cabinet floor to bolt into. If your sides are solid and you just want easy fitting, a side mount slide is simpler.

Bottom and Undermount Options

Bottom Mount Slide Rails FAQ

When should I use bottom mount instead of side mount?

Use bottom mount when the cabinet sides cannot take a fixing, when the drawer is very heavy and better supported from below, or for stair and under-stair storage where the only solid surface is the floor. For a normal cabinet with sound sides, side mount is easier and cheaper.

What is the difference between undermount and bottom mount?

Undermount hides the slide entirely under the drawer box for a clean frameless-cabinet look and is usually light duty with soft close. Bottom mount sits on the cabinet floor, is visible from below, and is built for heavy loads like the 265 lb A2047.

How much load can a bottom mount slide carry?

Our bottom mount range starts around 80 lb for undermount kitchen slides and runs to 265 lb for the heavy A2047. The cabinet floor, not the slide, is usually the weak point, so bolt into solid wood or a reinforced panel.

Do undermount slides need soft close?

They can. The MK316 undermount slide includes soft close, which is the standard expectation in a kitchen. If you want the hidden look without a damper, check the product page, because damping varies by model.

How do I measure for an undermount slide?

Measure the drawer box depth and the clearance beneath it, then match the slide length and the under-clearance to the product dimensions. Undermount is less forgiving than side mount, so check both numbers before ordering.

Can bottom mount slides be used outdoors?

Only in a covered, dry location unless the model is stainless. For damp garages or outdoor kitchens, choose a stainless option from our stainless steel range.
